The Classic Margarita Recipe
The Margarita is one of the most famous cocktails in the world. Like many other cocktails, it has a widely disputed origin with many interesting tales. These stories have made the drink gradually more popular over time, and two really stand out. One interesting tale is the drink is that the drink was named after a showgirl called Marjorie King who was supposedly allergic to all liquor except tequila. In 1938 she went to Rancho Del Gloria Bar located at Rosarita Beach, Mexico and asked one of the bartenders to mix her a cocktail with tequila. The bartender Danny Herrera poured tequila over ice and added Triple sec and lime. He changed Marjorie’s to its Spanish equivalent after the creation, “Margarita”, and this is how the Margarita was born. The most widely accepted story regarding the history of the Margarita is that it was invented by a Dallas socialite called Margarita Sames in 1948, during a Cliffside party at Acapulco. Margarita Sames made this cocktail for her friends at a Christmas party and they loved the drink so much that they spread the recipe around the world like wildfire, making it the classic drink that it is today.

In 1971 the first frozen Margarita machine was invented out of a soft serve machine for ice cream and this shows the popularity of the drink, a drink which shows no signs of having its popularity slow down at all. The margarita is an excellent cocktail that is shaken, not stirred, and I personally enjoy it on the rocks with an old fashioned glass.
