The Godmother cocktail is very popular among women. As you can easily guess by its name, it is a variation of the very famous Godfather cocktail. This was invented back in the 70s and it is allegedly named after Marlon Brando who enjoyed it tremendously. It is believed that the Godmother originates in the same time, but there is no spectacular story behind its name. It was probably called like this simply because it was a lighter version of the Godfather. It was the variety for women because it wasn’t that strong as the Godfather. Nevertheless, don’t let the name fool you. The Godmother might be lighter, but it is still pure liquor, so it is a pretty potent drink. It is an after-dinner cocktail and you will definitely impress your women friends if you learn how to do it at home.
The Godmother is very easy to do, just like the Godfather. If the original cocktail combines scotch and amaretto, this feminine version replaces the scotch with vodka. As said, this might make it lighter in taste, but doesn’t reduce its potency. One glass might be enough for the wonderful ladies you are accompanying for an after dinner drink.
How to Prepare the Godmother
If you know how to pour wine in a glass, you’ll also know how to make this cocktail. It’s so simple that you can even teach your wife or girlfriend to prepare it herself.
- 1 ½ oz. of vodka.
- ¾ oz. of amaretto.
- A lemon slice or a fresh mint leaf for garnish.
Use an old-fashioned glass and fill it with ice. Pour the vodka and the amaretto and stir a little in order for the flavors to combine. Garnish the glass with either the lemon or the mint and serve it. Don’t compromise on the quality of the ingredients because these will alter the final result.
Just like in the case of the Godfather, the ratio between vodka and amaretto is not set in stone. This is the original recipe, but if you like it sweeter, you can add more amaretto. You can also reduce the quantity of amaretto if you don’t have a sweet tooth. However, since the Godmother is an after dinner drink, it is supposed to be slightly sweet.
If you add some cream to it, you can turn the Godmother into another popular variation: the Goddaughter.
