Instead of soda water you can use tonic water in the preparation but this may slightly bitter the taste. The actual process of making the drink is very easy and simple.  A Mojito can be prepared by using alcohol or without using alcohol in a virgin mix.  You can add fruits like strawberries and melon to the mojito if you want to add some extra flavor, but it’s a good idea to use the pulp of the fruit and make a puree to add to the drink.

The Mojito is a mix of mint, sugar, rum, lime, and club soda that originates from Havana, Cuba.  It is said the word Mojito comes from ‘Mojo’, which is a liquid made by using lemon juice and used to add flavors to the recipe. There’s also a theory that the name Mojito is simply a derivative of “mojadito”, which means “a little wet” in Spanish.  The Mojito is a traditional and refreshing drink, and if you are planning to throw a Caribbean themed party the drink is a must have to prepare.

For preparing this drink you have to use these following ingredients.

1. One lime for juicing

2. Four mint leaves

3. one teaspoon powdered sugar

4. 2 ounces club soda

5. 2 ounces white rum

6. 1 sprig of mint for garnishing purpose

7. Crushed ice

How Do You Make a Classic Mojito?

The basic Classic Mojito Recipe can be made by the following steps. Preparation time to make the drink is five minutes (approx.).

  • Put the mint leaves into a glass and squeeze lime juice over the leaves.
  • Add powdered sugar on it and squeeze all the mint, lime juice and sugar together.
  • Pour in the rum and top it off with club soda.
  • Garnish it with mint sprig.
